A long-overdue Garden Update

It has been a very long time since I managed to get any pictures of the garden posted. Just for kicks and giggles: here is the post when everything was just planted.

And here is what the monstrosity looked like last weekend:

The Back Garden

Looking back at the Side Garden

We are being overrun with lettuce and cucumbers! Salad anyone?

Last year we had an abundance of zucchini. This year; not so much. Enough to freeze some shredded for breads and muffins - to make my Nathaniel a very happy boy this coming winter.

We do have a good amount of yellow squash. Quite yummy on the grill.

The winter squashes: spaghetti; going great, acorn; doing well; butternut; not so great.

We do have a lot of green tomatoes. I am hoping they hurry up and turn. Of course, I will end up with a ton turning all at once. Oh, well.

Some pictures of the first couple pickings:
The very first picking for 2012

Just because Frank thought there should be a picture
of me with some of the fruits of the garden

The second picking a couple days later

A small bit of what is on my counter this morning.
The vase is holding the garlic the littles pulled up
yesterday. Kind of pretty!
We shall see what the coming weeks hold. It is very hot and humid here. The bugs are getting to me and the plants. I am thinking my growing season is going to be a little shorter this year - or I could be wrong!

Going to link up with Ginny's post from the past weekend - late as usual!

If it all goes according to the past few months, this will link to the next week's post as well - unless I actually get the pictures I take up on the computer quicker!

Have a great day.

  1. Hi, I had to come check out your garden. the Farmer has a tractor and we have access to the land, as retired the produce is part of our summer income, plus the canning. Hopefully we'll be able to get a freezer this year.
I have a soft spot in my heart for the raised beds, contained and neat, love 'em. Yours are just right,

  3. Your garden is looking wonderful; I'm so jealous of those cucumbers. My first planting failed (our spring was too cool and damp). We are still harvesting lots of lettuce and strawberries if you can believe it. I'll have a garden update on Saturday (Lord willing) if you want to see what's up in the opposite corner of the country.

    Happy harvesting! ~Lisa

    1. OH! I am going to give all credit to my hubby and son for all the chicken poo they spread for me at the beginning of the season. Everyone else around here (ok, all my friends with gardens) is not getting cucumbers; at all.
      God is good to me!
