There is nothing better than the sound of lids popping. Nothing. Especially when the lids are covering my first ever batch of pickles.
I have never made pickles before.
I have made relish. But that was with zucchini.
I have not ever had enough cucumbers to make pickles.
We have always just eaten whatever we managed to grow.
However, this year, we have had enough cucumbers.
I just finished 14 quarts of garlic dill pickles. I do hope they turn out ok! It is my mom's recipe, I am thinking they should be yummy (provided I followed the recipe correctly).
And it looks like there are lots more cucumbers to come.
I hope the banana pickles start growing more. I so want to pickle those! Yum!
This is someplace for me to keep track of the memories that I seem to forget in the everyday routines of being a servant: of God, my husband and my children.

I jsut realize: I forgot to post birthday wishes for my Isabel. Ugh. A total BAD MOMMY moment! so: here goes (2 weeks late) ...

Fun!! I think I'd like to do pickles someday even though no one in our family currently likes them! It just seems so vintage or something!! Yours look great :)
ReplyDeleteVintage! love that word! and so true; almost like I had to graduate to pickles to be considered a 'true' canner!
DeleteWe opened the first jar yesterday for my daughter's birthday cookout: my mom said they were 'ok' but probably could do with a little more garlic; my daughter (the one of the 6 who actually likes pickles) said they were 'alright'.
I am putting all this down to opening a jar only 12 hours after processing and no fridge time.
Maybe the next batch will be 'awesome'!
I am hoping to get some sweet pickles done at some point
thanks for stopping by!
Karen,
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the pickling! Yes, definitely give them more time...
As I told you already, I'm so jealous of your cucumbers. My plants have yet to produce even a single bloom. I did plant several plants in hopes of having enough to make pickles; usually I buy cukes from a local farm to make them. Lord willing, this year will be a first! Keeping my fingers crossed and whispering prayers for gardening success for both of us. :)

Chicken poo! I am convinced that is what is causing this over-abundance of cukes
ReplyDeleteI am sure yours will show up!
