My Almanac for this week...
Moments of Gratitude
* my husband - he works hard and does a great job taking care of us
* watching my daughter drive off with my Mother-in-law for an afternoon out
* little girls who make pack lunch for their daddy, and include love notes
* little boys who dress up like construction workers to follow in their daddy's footsteps
* friends
* teenagers who still participate in VBS at church
* everyone at home for dinner
* parents - enough said
Beauty in the Ordinary
Enjoying the mornings on the back patio with a cup of coffee, my husband and his mom watching the rather entertaining wildlife in the backyard. Our new habit in the morning. A very relaxing way to start the day.
From the Kitchen
Plums. Eating, canning - lots of plums
Dinners this week: Steak stir-fry; oven baked chicken, roasted squash on the grill; taco ring
Praying
For my friend at church; for Frank's uncles

On Knowing God's Will
"An inspiration urging us to give up some true good we already possess in order to pursue a future good is suspect."
St. Francis de Sales
Reading
the same stuff: knitting books, cleaning books, book catalogs, weight loss books - all over the place and having a tough time absorbing things right now. Might have to return it all to the library and start over.
Crafting
Still working on the baby sweater. It is actually coming along nicely. I have the front right done and starting on the back. I am actually quite proud of myself for not rushing this.
I am planning my projects for the next few months. I want to do something interesting for the next MD raffle for my nephews. I am eyeing my thread stash. We shall see what I come up.
Looking Ahead

I would love a basement! They are not common in our part of the country.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds lovely, the time you are spending w/you husband and mother in law. I miss my mother in law. She died 5 years ago. More importantly I miss my children growing up with her. Her children/grandchildren were the delights of her heart.
we were gone this morning to VBS from 8:30 til about noon. When we got home I asked Maria if she enjoyed her quiet time as 5/6 of the children were with me at church - she said "Not really, I missed having everyone around, I got used to them" Not bad for only 3 full weeks here! Of course all the children were thrilled (and she was too) that she made lunch for us and it was ready for us when we got home - and the pot was empty about 10 minutes after I said "have at it" - a true blessing
DeleteThank you for stopping by
Jenny: sorry to hear about your mother in law. That can be a hard relationship but it can be one of pure joy too...thanks for reminding me not to take it for granted.
DeleteWow! What a great project - turning a basement into living space. Like Jenny, I would love a basement, too, but our subsoils here aren't compatible.
ReplyDeleteAnd VBS? I miss it.
The basement is definitely coming in handy! The other side, however, is completely saturated with stuff - a very large project coming up after construction is finished

Love the quote Karen!
ReplyDeletethank you - it has definitely given me something to think about.

what excitement in your basement, looking good!
ReplyDeletecoming along- I am amazed at how much my hubby can get done in a short amount of time - he is an amazing guy!
Deletethanks for stopping by
What a wonderful way to recap your week and recognize God's hand in the ordinary and not so ordinary. :) Karen, where in PA are you headed? I'm originally from Pittsburgh! Haven't been back since my dear G'ma passed away several years ago. Is the basement project for your mil? Blessings to you, my blogging friend, ~Lisa
ReplyDeleteWe are going to Downingtown - about 20 min from Lancaster. It takes us about 7 hours door to door with 2 pee breaks, Lol My brother went to college there and met a girl - end of story!
DeleteBasement is sort of for my MIL - the oldest two are moving to the basement and the youngest 2 will be moving to Olivia's room and the biggest bedroom will be repainted and new floors for my MIL. Right now she is in the boys room with them - a great solution as Lucas is the only one she has been able to sleep with so far.
Blessings right back at ya!
I've just been reading back through your blog and loving all of the GREAT photos. I felt immediately at home when I arrived here, seeing the picture of St. Jane de Chantal on your sidebar, and a great quote by St. Francis de Sales in this post.. they are my two main "patrons!" Looks like I'm hooked... :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet thing to say! Thank you
DeleteThey are up there for me after Our Lady of Guadalupe - long story which might be here somewhere!
