Apples - Part 2

Apples.

I think we might be done with apples for the next couple days.

Maybe.

After a 2 hour break, during which I washed up the kitchen - all the pots, pans, utensils, counters - and then went to the store for more canning lids and an apple corer, I decided to just finish off the apples in the house.

2 more bushels of apples.

I didn't get quite as much help as I had the first go-round. But, it did seem to flow quicker and easier. Maybe practice does make perfect!

Nathaniel did want to try his hand at actually putting the jar together:

I think we have the makings of a mighty-fine kitchen helper!

The end result to the afternoon's work:
10 quarts applesauce
7 pints grape applesauce
35 pints of applesauce

So, I think the grand total for the day's work is:

26 quarts: 25 for storage, 1 for the fridge for dinner
66 pints: 56 for storage, 2 pints brought to friends, 1 pint to the fridge for the week, 7 grape flavored

We are still debating what we do next week..... more apples or not more apples?

A difficult decision.

  1. Oh Karen, If only we lived closer, we could barter some raspberry jam for some of the DELICIOUS apple sauce! x

  2. Ah, Emily, living closer would be a better deal for me, I think! But I am not sure who would be jumping the pond!

Bartering would definitely be happening! the raspberry jam sounds delicious - and something my husband would probably enjoy more than the applesauce.

    Thanks for the visit

A New Start?

A test of sorts.....  I think I'm going to try something old-new.  It has been too many years since my last post. The world's differ...
