Valley Forge

While deciding what to do during our vacation, my sister-in-law mentioned she had read that there was a re-enactment at Valley Forge on Saturday. As we studied the Revolutionary War about a year and a half ago, we decided it would be fun to walk in the same place as George Washington and his troops.

It was a great day; a little on the warm side, about 90; but there was a nice breeze and lots to learn.

And off we went....

Nathaniel and Elliott being goofy

Before we left, we found out the re-enactors are only at Valley Forge one day a month. How cool that we were able to be there the one day in August they were there!

What the hut would have looked like

Lucas, Nathaniel and Elliott as soldiers

Nathaniel, Lucas, Isabel and Elliott

Isabel (as soldier), Julianne, Makenzie and Catherine

Learning about what the soldiers had to carry and the
requirements to being able to be a foot soldier

Pretty, now
We packed a lunch and enjoyed the shade and the views

We also visited the house George and Martha Washington stayed at as well. The house is about 75% the same as when they lived there. The furnishings are replicas.

I think everyone had fun!

  1. My family went to Valley Forge this summer, too, and we really enjoyed it! Such a great place of history.
