Yarn-Along #42

From Ginny
~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading?

I love these yarn along posts. To be able to see what other women are working on - fantastic (and too many ideas for my little brain to keep track of!) And to be able to see the progress I am making on what I am working on.

Still.

I am working on the same blanket as the past few weeks. The Fall Blanket for a Muscular Dystrophy raffle. To get to Pennsylvania by April 21st. hmmmm.....

I have 30 blocks completed, ends woven and pieced together in 4 sections:

One of the things I really like about this pattern (and this is my 4th blanket to be done with this pattern) are the different patterns/textures used for each stripe. It is difficult to see the texture in the blanket shot picture, hopefully you can see the differences in the block close-up:

I also did something R E A L L Y stupid this past weekend. I decided I needed a change and started another blanket as well. Yeah, really stupid; pretty, but stupid:

I actually did smarten up and put it aside to work on after I get this Fall Blanket done. I am shooting to have a completed picture to share here next Yarn-Along. I want to be able to give it to my Mom to take with her to PA when she joins us for Easter.

We shall see.

I currently have the other 18 squares needed in various stages of completion.

The race is on.....

As far as reading - yeah, not so much! Still have the same pile, don't anticipate that changing any time soon.

Off to Ginny's to see what others are working on.

  1. Love the different textures in the stripes -- thanks for the close up shot! And I know all about starting new projects when I shouldn't... That's why I'm working so hard this year to finish my ufo's (which I'll be sharing with the yarn along later today, Lord willing).

    Blessings to you,

    Lisa :)

    1. Love your finished projects! I am afraid to look for ufo's in my stash in the basement. I know of at least 4 that are fairly recent (w/i the past year) what I dumped down there on cleaning binges before that - don't.want.to.know; yet.

    2. Thanks, Karen. :) Earlier this year I sorted through my ufo's & yarn stash and organized everything on an unused book shelf; I gave away several bags full of yarn to the Goodwill as well as to a friend's niece who's a beginner. One thing is for sure, there will always be a ufo's since I also suffer from yarn addicts' ADHD. haha!

  3. Gosh, Karen, the texture adds another complete dimension to the blanket- BEAUTIFUL. And you know me, probably a touch of ADHD, ha ha, several projects on the go... !!

    1. Emily - the texture is so much fun - I actually made a 'baby blanket' using this pattern: 9 blocks in all one color.

yeah, I do suffer from YarnADD. We should have a club or YADD support group:

"Hi, my name is Karen and I have over 100 skeins of yarn in my basement with more under the bed and 10 projects in process." anyone wanna join me?

      Thanks for the kind words!
      K

  4. Beautiful blanket! I've never seen one that! So generous of you to spend so much time and work for such a good cause. My very good friend suffers from limb-girdle MD and she is an inspiration to me.

    1. Thank you Mary -
it is a good cause! My brother's two boys have Duchene's MD and he is sponsoring a walk/run April in PA - they have had a raffle table and my mom asked me to do however many I can get done in time. I am praying to get at least 2 done for this year and will start working on some more for next year.

  7. Oh, I love the squares! The color and textures are amazing and the pattern looks so cool together!

And I always end up starting something else before I finish a big project. In fact, I have worked on gift projects for an entire year while a blanket for our own house sits in a bag under my desk. Ugh!

  8. Both of your blankets will look wonderful I think. I often have to remind myself to finish something first, especially if there is a deadline, before starting another exciting project!

  9. Since I can't post a comment on the "other" post, I'll jump in here to say how thankful I am to have made your acquaintance, Karen! What an interesting thing this world of blogging is -- not only do we get to share what's going on in our thoughts and lives, but we also get to make friends. :)

    Blessings, ~Lisa

  10. What a wonderful blanket. I love how just turning the squares gives such a wonderful pattern! I don't think it's crazy at all to start something new before the first is finished. Of course my opinion isn't worth a salt!

A New Start?

A test of sorts.....  I think I'm going to try something old-new.  It has been too many years since my last post. The world's differ...
