I really thought my next post would be the beginning of the planning for school - however, I found myself thinking this morning about laundry.
My dryer does not work. For a family of 8, that is not good. However, my husband installed a clothesline for me last month (before the dryer broke - God is good!) As I hung clothes this morning I thought of a statement I had made before at Bible Study: " I try to pray for my family as I do laundry" figuring with the amount of laundry I do, I can say a lot of prayers for my family. That was the theory.
Theory vs Reality
The reality is, in a family of 8, doing laundry is a hit and run proposition. Grab clothes, throw them in the washer, when the buzzer buzzes, throw clothes in dryer. Praying doesn't really happen. This morning, my reality was 20 minutes of sorting wet clothes to fit better on the line and pondering:
pondering the stains still on the shirts of my 3 year old - a testimony to his enjoyment of popsicles and ice cream and digging in the dirt,
pondering the work shirts of my husband and the hard work he does on a daily basis to provide for this growing family;
pondering the princess shirts of my younger daughters and wondering how much longer princesses will be their main thoughts
pondering the riding pants of my second daughter and enjoying the memory of her joy in horse riding
pondering the shirt my oldest wore and wondering how much longer I will enjoy having her come home to her parents
pondering the 'work shirt' of my older son and being grateful that he can go to work with his Dad and how much he enjoys being a handyman
Perhaps God knew what He was doing when He arranged for my reality to come closer to my theory.
GOD IS GOOD
This is someplace for me to keep track of the memories that I seem to forget in the everyday routines of being a servant: of God, my husband and my children.
