4-H - the State Edition

Been busy here. This past weekend we spent in Central Mass at the State 4-H competitions for Hippology and Horse Bowl (on Saturday) and Horse Judging (on Sunday).

Isabel was on our county junior team and Catherine was on the county senior team.

The junior competitions are team based. All results are based on the combined scores of the 4 members of the team. All the junior team members are fairly new; either first or second year juniors.

And they did great!

For Hippology (testing horse knowledge in a written test form) the team placed 2nd!

For Horse Bowl (testing horse knowledge in a Jeopardy style format, complete with buzzers) the team placed 4th.

On Sunday, the horse judging team placed 5th. They all looked so little walking up to get their ribbons.

The senior competitions are scored individually. The top 10 seniors are eligible to attend the National competition in Kentucky this coming November.
watching the junior team place well

Catherine didn' t place in either Horse Bowl or Hippology. However, she did place 8th in horse judging (which is actually considered the most difficult competition of the weekend.)
getting the ribbon and signing up for National notifications

a pretty ribbon!

Now we wait to see if enough seniors decide to not attend Nationals for Judging to allow Catherine to move up into the top 5 spots to go to KY. Some of the seniors who placed higher than Catherine also placed in the other competitions. Each senior is only allowed to go to Nationals for one competition - it really is very time consuming with the weekly practices all summer until November. Hopefully we will find out soon whether Catherine makes the state team.
